Eyelash extensions – What is it and how is it done

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent fibers that are attached to normal eyelashes. This is done so that they look darker and longer. One lash extension is applied per natural eyelash with the help of glue. The glue is semi-permanent in nature.

Lash extensions Pascoe Vale

The materials used for Lash extensions Pascoe Vale vary from salon to salon. They can be made of silk, faux mink, mink or they can be synthetic in nature. Most salons offer a variety of tints, curling patterns and extension lengths. This way the customer can customize their look the way they want .

How is it done ?

Lash extensions are applied one at a time in a very careful process. Salon artists use specially formulated glue that does not damage or irritate the natural eyelashes. The artificial eyelashes are only applied to an existing eyelash and not to the skin. The process varies from salon to salon.

[A] Evaluation :

Prior to eyelash application, the salon artist thoroughly goes through the benefits and risks of applying eyelash extensions. This is done before the lashes are applied. The salon artist then asks the customer about any skin conditions they might have.

Any such condition can make eyelash extensions unsuitable for the customer. If a customer wears contact lenses, they will be asked to remove the same.

[B] Extension Length :

The lash artist should start the application by asking the customer what kind of look they are going for and what is the length of extensions they want. It can be more natural or more glamorous. Based on the customer’s desired look, the artist may choose 3 or 4 different lengths of extensions.

[C] Cleaning the eye :

The lash artist will make the customer lie down and ensure that they are comfortable. Then they will proceed to clean the eye area to remove any germs, oil and make-up. This is why it helps if customers arrive free of make-up to their appointments.

[D] Application of eye gels and tape :

The eyes of the customer are closed for the entire process. It can take anything between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the number of lash extensions that are being applied.

The lash artist will apply an under-eye gel to the lower lashes to keep them out of the way. Then she will secure the eye gels with tape on both sides of the eye. This medical-grade tape doesn’t hurt the eyes and it doesn’t hurt when it’s removed later on.

[E] Final application of extensions :

The lash artist will dip each extension into lash glue and will then apply it to each individual lash. More voluminous looks might require the application of multiple lash extensions per individual lash. The application is not painful.

[F] Drying :

Lash glue is known to dry quickly. The lash artist will make the customer sit for around 10 minutes after applying all the extensions. Some lash artists might use a small fan to speed up the drying time. Most artists prefer natural air to let the glue dry. During this stage, the customer keeps their eyes closed.

[G] Removal of gels and tape :

Once the lashes dry completely, the lash artist removes the tape and the under-eye gels. This does not hurt but the lash artist is likely to caution the customer. Once everything is removed, the lash artist will brush the lashes with a spoolie brush. Finally, she will ask the customer to open her eyes.
